Resistance shows up—
It is disguised as the reason (you tell yourself) you are where you are now—not where you want to be.
Steven Pressfield in The War of Art puts it best,
“Most of us have two lives. The life we life and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands resistance.”
How does resistance show up in your life?
For me, it is not procrastination or succumbing to fear. Resistance presents itself as feeling overwhelmed about managing some technology piece of my business.
Overwhelm. Fear. Angst. Frustration.
My stomach feels tight about what lies outside my realm of control.
I recognize how the scarcity mindset shows up in my life around money. But I know how to shift to a prosperity mindset.
The limiting belief in scarcity, not enough, can reveal itself in other ways. You can tell if you are in resistance by your feelings.
So recently, when I was looking at my daily opt-in conversion rate versus what I hoped for, I felt uptight. Then: I recognized RESISTANCE.
It took me awhile, but I shifted my thoughts.
“Everything that shows up is for my highest good.”
“If the results are not what I anticipated, what can I learn from this and change?”
“What in my beliefs and thought patterns are creating this situation? What can I change?” Here–I did some energy work to release some buried resentments toward a family member.
Instead of clutching at what I wanted, I just breathed and trusted.
I find that living in the flow of abundance is a delicate balancing act. In the flow, I feel such joy. My heart surges with love toward the people I encounter. I long to always remain in that state.
When I am living in resistance, I am full of self-will.
You think: I have got to do this myself. Everything depends upon me and my efforts. I don’t like to ask for help. I try to control the world around me. Control leads to anger when circumstances and people don’t turn out as expected.
When you are living in the flow, it isn’t that life is effortless. You still must take inspired action. But you feel buoyed up and supported. You notice the synchronicities of life. Opportunities present themselves. Delight and gratitude are familiar friends.

Hi Tera – I’ve registered for and looking forward to this summit. Your description of resistance feels like my thoughts, my words – my present. I find it difficult to step back in this place and recognise it as resistance – my urge to ‘make things better’ (aka control freak) steps in! This is a welcome nudge though, thank you! x
Thank you, Emma. I find it is a process of paying attention to when I’m in the flow, and creating more of those in my life.
Hi Tera
Love this post. You express your feelings beautifully and I also love how you shared your personal experience.
Looking forward to the Summit!
Thank you, Rachel! I look forward to your radio show tomorrow!
