3 Steps to Creating a Dream Life from a Filipino American who was afraid of Success.

by | Feb 5, 2016 | Transcending the Upper Limit

I’m not an “manifestation expert” or another “guru” who claims to have figured it all out.

I’m just another person like you.

I don’t automatically wake up happy and grateful for every day. I used to find it hard to believe I’m really deserving of any sort of “success,” even though I’m already pretty “successful” by the world’s standards. I’ve struggled with resentment and let fear and anxiety hold me back from living my most authentic, fulfilling life.

But since July, I’ve embarked on a journey to overcome these challenges and get a few steps closer to being the person I’m meant to be… and living the life I truly want.

And now I want to show you how I’ve already achieved greater clarity in my life, manifested my dream job for this stage in my life, and tripled my income… all by following these 3 simple steps:

Step #1: Understand The Secret To What’s Really Holding
You Back From Accomplishing Your Goals.

I spent a whole year staring at the data for my dissertation without writing a single substantial page.

That 100+ page dissertation was the only thing standing between me being awarded the PhD I’d worked for years to achieve.

The research was done. The analysis was finished. So why couldn’t I write the thing?!

As I later discovered, the writer’s block I was experiencing was really a symptom of a deeper issue.

Before I started this journey, by all appearances, I was already “successful.”

Without even realizing it, I had already manifested some of my innermost dreams and desires….

I held a Bachelor’s in psychology and a Master’s in college and career counseling, I was on the brink of launching an educational technology tool I had piloted with promising results…

But no matter how much I accomplished – and maybe you can relate to this – I never felt worthy of success. I never felt like I was really good enough to deserve success.

That was my big secret I harbored since I was a little girl. And it was that big secret, not a simple lack of words, that was holding me back from completing my PhD and getting to the next level in life.

I grew up in with extremely strict parents who had immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines and held staunch fundamentalist religious beliefs.

And when you grow up believing that as a female, a person of color, and the youngest child in your family that your voice doesn’t matter and that you don’t matter… you turn into a full-grown woman who still believes she doesn’t matter. I didn’t believe I deserved success. In fact, I eventually learned that I actually feared success.

No matter how many degrees I held, no matter how much psychotherapy I sought, I still couldn’t get past that limiting, debilitating belief that wouldn’t let me achieve my goals.

If you feel like you have your own sort of “writer’s block” that is keeping you “stuck” in neutral instead of rocketing to your goals, the first step is to identify your inner most thought patterns and beliefs that are limiting what you can and can’t do.

Step #2: Realize That You Are Good Enough.

Ironically, while suffering from lingering bronchitis, I realized for the first time that my voice did matter.

Not only did my voice matter… I mattered – and I deserved the PhD I’d worked so hard to get.

Still contagious with the lingering virus, I was stuck at home reading a book on Filipino-American identity and transformation written by numerous authors.

At some point, I dropped the book on the floor. When I picked it up, I saw pages and pages of pictures of women who looked just like me, with names that sounded like mine, all with the letters “PhD” behind them.

Tears started rolling down my cheeks as the reality hit me. I had never felt like I deserved something as big as a PhD. Since I was a little girl, I held onto that secret belief that people who looked like me couldn’t hold degrees that high. But now I had evidence right in front of me that proved my beliefs wrong.

Regardless of what debilitating, limiting beliefs you’re holding onto right now, know that there is evidence that proves those negative thought patterns wrong.

You matter. You are worthy. You ARE good enough.

Don’t let anything or anyone tell you otherwise.

Step #3: Stop Doing The Same Thing And Expecting
Different Results.

Newsflash: Doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity.

I finally decided I was tired of doing the same things over and over with zero results, so I decided to try a new path to get past my writer’s block and accomplish my goals.

That’s why I enrolled in A-Life.

After doing some research on the book on Filipino-American identity and transformation I had been reading, I ended up landing on Tera Maxwell’s home page. Again, I saw evidence that a Filipina-American woman could earn a PhD (and was actually deserving of this success). When I saw that her degree was from the same university I was attending, I knew it was more than coincidence that had led me there.

So, even though the cost of A-Life was more than I could comfortably afford as a PhD student with a part-time campus position, I dove into the program. If anything, the big financial commitment gave me the shove I needed to take the program seriously and make the big changes that were necessary in my life.

It was through this program (and Tera’s guidance) that I started living differently.

I began…

  • Listening to A-Life and Inner Circle calls and replays and taking notes on everything that applied to me…
  • Going out of my comfort zone and engaging with the A-Life Facebook page…
  • Journaling every morning and reviewing my life codes and vision statement..
  • Mentally picturing images from my vision board throughout the day…
  • Releasing negative thought patterns and taking inspired action…
  • Looking for opportunities to “up-level” my life and finding solutions to challenges instead of letting fear and anxiety control my life…

By changing small things each day and fully embracing Tera’s formulas and energy work, I was able to achieve a clear vision for my life and stop the fear of success and limiting beliefs from hindering me.

If you want to destroy the limiting beliefs that are the reason you’re still stuck in a life you don’t love…

If you want to eliminate your own version of “writer’s block” and start creating your dream life…

Then you need to start doing something differently in order to interrupt the debilitating thought patterns that are limiting you right now.

By following the simple steps that led me to A-Life in July, I now feel much lighter and more authentic. I have released negative energy and debilitating thoughts that have stood in the way of me accomplishing my deepest desires.

I have come to a deeper understanding of my fear of success and by working with Tera, I have learned how to side-step the fear and anxiety that used to hold me back.

I have already experienced amazing shifts in my life and have landed my dream job that has allowed me to pay for my initial investment in A-Life several times over. I’m also starting to charge for the educational tool I piloted.

Most importantly, I’m happy to say that all writing blocks are starting to crumble, and I am now writing my dissertation with newfound inspiration.

All this has happened within the first 2 months of my participation in A-Life.

Maybe A-Life is the next step you need to take your life in the new direction you want; maybe it isn’t.

Either way, now you have a place to start, and you can see that transformation is 100% possible for you too.
